Job shadowing at Newark School in Malta

We are in Malta on a new Erasmus+ project with a group of eight students for the action of Mobility Learners aimed to provide learning opportunities to our students as far as intercultural, formative, interdisciplinary competences as well as enhancement of soft skills such as team work , problem solving and interpersonal communication. Students during the mobility will be working with Maltese students on a project of Sustainable development concerning the blue and green economy in the partners’ countries. The school is an international High School which uses CLIL methodology to teach different subjects in the curriculum. This means that the students coming from more than 47 different countries can improve the proficiency in English and acquire the technical vocabulary relevant to the students’ field of study. Today we took part in an English lesson whose focus was on enhancing the ability to communicate in English presenting ideas, discussing opinions and participating a class debate about the pros and cons of “ citizen journalism”. The activity was engaging as debate is one of the most effective methodology to strengthen interpersonal communication even in a multicultural environment. Another objective of this activity was to develop the leadership skills because it encouraged students to contribute their own ideas to the discussion.This activity was another language economy.This activity complied with methods that emphasize the role of participation and facilitation, such as receptive learning, guided discovery learning, inquiry and constructivist learning, learning by doing, cooperation and discussion. The participants became the architects of their knowledge and did not feel just by standers.
